Hello, my little princesses! Doing fine, I hope?

Who here has stuffed animals? You? You too? All of us? Good, so we are all on the same page.

They come in many names. Stuffed Animals, Stuffies, Plushies, Snuggies, and all those cute names we give them during cuddle time. But no matter what we call them, I think we can all agree that in this Little lifestyle of ours, stuffies are very important. Be it for hugging them while we sleep, decorating our beautiful bedrooms, as a coping mechanism for anxiety, or playing with them (why not?), we got to have at least three or four (or six, or ten…).

So, if like me, you still don’t have enough friends and need to get a new fluffy companion, I want to show you some of my favourite kawaii stuffed animals, talk just a little about where they came from and why they are so good for us. Shall we?

Why Do We Love Them So Much?

If you have a stuffed animal, there is a good chance you have had it since your childhood. Having that connection can give you a sense of safety and comfort. It reminds you of home and balances you emotionally.

Even if it’s not from your childhood, I’m sure (at least) one of your stuffies means a lot to you and can give you strength and balance. They are also very good for coping with mental illnesses, like depression and anxiety.

Live animals like dogs, cats, and many small cuties, will be a little more efficient with all the emotional support, but hugging Mr. Cuddles can help you go through those difficult times as well, okay? Besides, there will always be a cozy little shoulder to cry on when you need (even if they don’t have any shoulders!).

Leaving the problems and sadness behind, the fact that they are plain adorable is also a good reason for you to have one. They can match your bedding and pillows, or you could even use THEM as a pillow if you need it. They will never judge if you sing off-key, and they are the perfect audience for your live shows and Oscar-worthy performances.

Where Does The Idea Come From?

People have had stuffed animals, or similar toys, since forever. We have some dated as far back as 300 BC.

In Roman times, poor kids used to make rag dolls with fabric straps and stuff them with straw, since they couldn’t afford wood carvings and prettier toys.

The first ever company to produce stuffed animals was the German company Steiff, in 1880. In 1902, they started using plush-furlike fabric, giving the more fuzzy and fluffy look that we now know and love ♥.

Hello little friend! Don’t be shy.

The Different Types of Stuffies

We can put stuffed animals mostly under two different categories:

  • Handcrafted; like Amigurumi. These are knitted and crocheted and made to look more kawaii, with big heads and limbs. They are also more original and unique. You can sew your stuffie using a cloth-like felt and stuff it with cotton.
  • Branded; like TY, Sanshee, and many others. As the name says, these are mass-produced and sold by companies. Usually with no difference within the same models.

A Girls Best Friend

Stuffies are always there for you. It’s a good comfort to have around in times of need, and no matter what anyone says or thinks, you are never too old for sleeping or having stuffed animals. Before I’m done, I want to share with you something very important and personal.

I have said this before, but stuffed animals are good for coping with anxiety, depression, and many different mental illnesses. You don’t need to be ashamed or hide this from anyone. If you are not comfortable taking a stuffie with you everywhere you go that’s more than okay, but don’t ever let other people, someone who knows nothing about you, get in the way of your happiness and healing.

My boyfriend loves me and supports me with all my little perks, and he knows all my stuffies by name. I carry them around and take them to places, especially when things are particularly bad, and he not only encourages me but sometimes chooses one for me.

He understands that this is important to me and doesn’t judge. In fact, half of the plushies I own he was the one that gave me. Not because it was Valentine’s Day, or my birthday or anything, just because he knew how happy that would make me and how it would help. I am forever grateful and just wanted to share this with you guys ♥

Now back to Happiness.

Thank you so so much for being here with me again. I hope you find a good stuffie to take home and make your days and your bedroom even more beautiful 🙂

To end, today I want to show you Boo, my chubby hamster, with his stuffie, Lupin. They are very good friends and Boo loves to hold Lupin while he sleeps.

Just the bestest of friends!

As a DIY fan for all sorts of home projects, I have definitely seen a trend of tutorials about how to craft simple stuffed animals yourself, even by recycling household items like old shirts! I guess everyone really does still love their stuffed toys, no matter how old we get XD

Great article. All the best!

    Hi, Sharon!
There are maaany tutorials of DIY stuffies! Some are very complex and elaborate but a lot of them are very simple and end up looking soo kawaii *-*
Now you made me want to make one for myself, I might make a new tutorial post soon!
We hold a lot of sentimental value in our stuffed toys, it’s actually quite nice if you think about it 🙂

Wow, this is a lovely website, and a lovely post. I LOVE soft toys! I have plenty of sheep stuffed animals. I also love the Kapibara-san soft toys! I have them in all sizes. My husband also completely accepts my soft toy addiction, and he also likes many soft toys. We shouldn´t settle for anything less than a person who totally accepts us as we are.

How did I never hear about Kapibara-san before right now?? I just searched it and it’s soooo cute, I love it! I have to get one for myself.

It’s so important to have someone who understands and accepts us, right? I’m so happy you also have someone like that in your life 🙂
Thank you so much for stopping by and letting me know about Kapibara-san! I know who my next friend is going to be *-*
    Have a wonderful week!
